Video Game Creators Daisuke Ishiwatari and Toshimichi Mori Will Attend FanimeCon 2010 as Guests of Honor

San Jose, CA, USA / Yokohama, Japan (April 9th, 2010) — FanimeCon, Aksys Games, and Arc System Works are proud to announce video game creators Daisuke Ishiwatari and Toshimichi Mori as Guests of Honor at FanimeCon 2010, which is being held over Memorial Day weekend, May 28th to May 31st, at the San Jose Convention Center.
Mr. Daisuke Ishiwatari is famous for creating the Guilty Gear video game series. While he denies having created the game single-handedly, his extensive work on the series includes an eclectic assortment of talents: “I was entertained by the idea that I could create a game, and got my toes wet in areas like concept, planning, direction, design, music, writing, and voice acting.” He also composed the soundtrack for the BlazBlue series of video games.
Mr. Toshimichi Mori has many talents as well. He not only directed and produced the BlazBlue video game series but also designed the characters and wrote the scenarios. Mr. Mori played many video games growing up, and he decided to create them when an amazing RPG made him realize, “I want to make a game like THIS!”

“After months of negotiating in good faith with our chosen hotel, we came to the conclusion that they were not acting in kind and an agreement with them was not possible. At this point, we cannot find suitable space for the same weekend, without risking the financial well being of convention. As Gaylaxicon 2011 is already scheduled for April 29 – May 1 2011 in Atlanta, GA, delaying the convention was also not a good option. As a result, we are regretfully canceling Gaylaxicon 2010.
Those individuals who hold paid memberships for Gaylaxicon 2010 have been contacted directly regarding possible options for their fees. We hope to see everyone in Atlanta.”
Sad news, we hope 2011 goes off without a hitch.
Anaheim Comic Con “Charmed” To Add Shannen Doherty, Holly Marie Combs To Lineup

Duo Who Played Sisters on hit TV Series “Charmed” to Appear in Anaheim Saturday, April 17
NEW YORK and ANAHEIM, Calif., April 9, 2010 – Actresses Shannen Doherty and Holly Marie Combs, who both starred in the TV series “Charmed,” will appear at Anaheim Comic Con on Saturday, April 17, at the Anaheim Convention Center.
Doherty, who portrayed “Prue Halliwell” in “Charmed,” is also known for her key roles in the series “Beverly Hills, 90210,” in which she played “bad girl” “Brenda Walsh,” and the movies Heathers and Mallrats, which have become cult favorites. Doherty was recently a celebrity contestant on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” program.
Combs, who played “Piper,” the younger sister of “Prue” in “Charmed,” had earlier landed her first major role as ‘Kimberly” in “Picket Fences,” which ran for four seasons.
Anaheim Comic Con, set for April 16-18, brings together fans of comics, toys, collectibles and offers a chance to see actors, writers, artists and the best each industry has to offer.

Carl Gustav Horn is an editor at Dark Horse Comics, where he works on the CLAMP “Mangettes” project and graphic novels such as Clover, Neon Genesis Evangelion: The Shinji Ikari Raising Project, The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service, and Oh My Goddess! He has also contributed his expertise to the American anime DVD releases of Patlabor 2, Gunbuster, Gunbuster 2, Jin-Roh, Royal Space Force, Appleseed Ex Machina, and Lupin III: The Fuma Conspiracy, and he provided commentaries about his field to Newsweek, The Los Angeles Times, WIRED, and the Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
Author and librarian Gilles Poitras wrote Anime Essentials, the book on “Every Thing a Fan Needs to Know” about Japanese popular culture, as well as The Anime Companion, The Anime Companion 2, and articles in Otaku USA and (previously) Newtype USA. He has given presentations about anime at Pixar Animation Studios, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, the Smithsonian, and various libraries and conventions.

It’s Crazy! Gogos Crazy Bones Free To Kids 10 And Under At Anaheim Comic Con Courtesy of Irwin Toy

NEW YORK and ANAHEIM, Calif., April 7, 2010 – Children 10 and under attending Anaheim Comic Con, April 16-18, 2010, at the Anaheim Convention Center will receive a free Gogos Crazy Bones toy, courtesy of Irwin Toy. The popular items will be distributed, while supplies last, at the Registration area upon arrival.
Gogos Crazy Bones is a collectable, mini game toy sensation. They are small, colorful figures whose gaming origins date back to Ancient Greece, where children played by bouncing and throwing knuckle bones. These more refined, plastic characters are available in the hundreds, each one having a unique face and name.
Gogos Crazy Bones was named the 2009 British Toy and Hobby Association (BTHA) Collectable Toy of the Year. The characters have recently been hugely popular in Europe and Australia and were first a big hit in the U.S. more than a decade ago, when 31.5 million packages were sold from 1998-2000.

San Japan Announces Third Round of Guests for 2010 Convention

J-Rock Band KESHIKI to perform for the first time in Texas
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS – April 6th, 2010 – San Japan, San Antonio’s major
Japanese Culture and Anime Convention, has announced the third round
of guests for its upcoming convention happening on July 9th-11th,
2010. San Japan, along with the cooperation of Cherry Blossom
Productions, is proud to announce that Japanese Rock Band KESHIKI will
making their Texas musical debut performance. Additional guests
announced include an appearance by Something Positive webcomic artist
R. K. Milholland, along with the return of voice actor Clarine Harp
and cosplay group DigitalDimensionCosplay.
KESHIKI, which means “landscape” in English, was formed in the spring
of 2007. Their music contains the melodic and dynamic vocals of Jun,
ex-vocalist of Camino, mixed with the sensual and powerful rock sounds
created by guitarist Yu, bassist Kenta, and drummer Taka. Despite the
band only being together for a few years, their musical background is
quite extensive.
Texas-born R. K. Milholland is the creator of the webcomics Midnight
Macabre, Classically Positive, Something Positive, New Gold Dreams and
Super Stupor. His comics have so many fans, they managed to raise
enough money to allow him to quit his day gig and become a full-time
cartoonist. His work often covers topics related to gaming, geeks,
goths and comics, which explains why his fans are so maniacally
devoted.

Comic Legend Stan Lee to Attend Phoenix Comicon
March 31st 2010: Stan Lee, the co-creator of many of America’s favorite comic book heroes, including Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Iron Man, and the Hulk, will be attending this year’s Phoenix Comicon, May 27-30th.
“This is why we are the signature pop-culture event of the southwest,” said Matt Solberg, Phoenix Comicon Convention Director, “Our attendees get to meet the best of the best.”
Lee’s amazing career began with Marvel Comics before the publishing company was even called “Marvel.” From a very young age, Lee showed a knack for the comics industry, becoming an editor at 18-years-old in 1941. It wasn’t until the late 1950’s, however that Lee’s true genius showed through. At that time DC Comics, Marvel’s main competition, was seeing significant success with superheroes. Marvel needed a similar success. Lee was assigned the task. He took a chance and invented heroes that had human problems, from vanity to a bad temper. His first such group of heroes, the Fantastic Four, were amazingly popular and led on to the creation of the Hulk, Iron Man, the X-Men, and eventually Marvel’s most successful super hero, Spider-Man.
“Stan is something of a superhero himself,” said Anabel Martinez, Phoenix Comicon Marketing Director, “Where he goes, success follows. Understandably, we’re happy to have him!”
London Worldcon bid update

The 2014 UK Worldcon bid site is now fully functional at londonin2014.org. Their planned dates are August 14th-18th (Thursday-Monday).

It was a packed house for the launch party here at Eastercon.
Christoper Priest, GOH in 2005, announced the winning city and gave a talk about his attendance at the last London Worldcon in 1965.
Then they showed a music video set to The Clash’s “London Calling” with many clips from movies and TV (more than a few from Doctor Who), most of which showed London being destroyed in one way or another. Quite fun actually.
