Here is the websites announcement,
If you are coming to MonsterCon 2013, PLEASE READ THIS MESSAGE COMPLETELY. This is a major news announcement regarding our event this year.
For the last couple of weeks we have been working to solve the problem of capacity at the Hilton Greenville, as well as parking concerns, and resolution of the errors made with room reservations earlier this year. These problems became compounded this week due to unrealistic and unfair actions taken by the hotel.
2 things to remember about our staff and this convention:
*We will not tolerate unfair treatment of our attendees.
*We will not take abuse from any venue. Read more

Charles Keller didn’t start out to build a Batcave. Keller invested in Apple right before the release of the first iPod, and all he really wanted was a Batmobile of his own to celebrate, like the George Barris designed Ford Futura concept car that Adam West drove in the 1960s television series. Originally, Keller’s intent was to keep it to himself and his kids, take it for weekend spins and enjoy his newfound wealth.

By Shawn Scott Smith| July 14, 2013 | Comments Off on Anime Southeast review
Drove up this morning to Anime Southeast in Sevierville, TN for day 3 of the convention. What I found was a very nice Anime con hosted at a super nice hotel/waterpark family theme resort.
Anime Southeast took up about half of the properties convention space, which means there is room to grow if needed. I imagine the Waterpark saw its fair share of cosplayers over the weekend as well which is and added bonus. Throw in all the tourist traps in the surrounding Sevierville/Piegon Forge area and I could see this convention being added to someones weeklong vacation plans.
Anime Southeast did a great job with the layout of the convention having 4 panel rooms all of adequate size for the programming, and a nice long dealers room with a little under 20 dealers. The artist alley is right near main programming and before the dealers hall ensuring all the artist get passed at least once during the course of the day. Pretty great location to get your artwork seen.
The map had a room labeled Lounge/Video Game room, but I assume it was closed for the convention on Sunday as i never saw the door open during my time there today.
I sat for a few panels and enjoyed the variety presented from Anime Food, to Samurai battle techniques, to a Pokemon Game show. This convention is easy going and I’d happily recommend it to any Anime fans. Hope to get to return for more than one day next year, and maybe hit the water park.

Wiscon, the convention focusing on feminist and minority sf, and the annual academic conference of SFRA, the Science Fiction Research Association, will both be held in Madison, WI on Memorial Day weekend in 2014. So they’ve teamed up to offer a joint membership!
Registering for either Wiscon or SFRA, at $50, will grant you access to nearly all events at both conventions. The con banquets will be ticketed separately, and people wishing to present papers to SFRA must have a SFRA institutional membership.
Wiscon will be held May 23-26 at its usual home, the Concourse Hotel, and SFRA will be May 22-24 at the Inn at the Park.
For more details, see Wiscon’s announcement here.

By Petrea Mitchell| July 9, 2013 | Comments Off on Kramer saga not quite over
While the surprise announcment of Dragon*Con’s reorganization has been greeted with joy by many people, one person who is not ready to let it go is… Ed Kramer. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
« go back — keep looking »
McNeill Stokes, who has represented Kramer in lawsuits against DragonCon/ACE, called the merger a “discriminatory squeeze-out” and said the cash offered for Kramer’s shares was “grossly inadequate.”
Stokes said he expects a legal challenge.
