Asheville, NC Geeks Out!

By Shawn Scott Smith| February 23, 2012 | Comments Off on Asheville, NC Geeks Out!

From the news release today about a new convention in Asheville,

“We’re taking geek to the streets!

Announcing GeekOUT 2012, a multi-genre celebration of comic books, gaming, costumes, art, and fan culture in downtown Asheville! GeekOUT will carry on the legacy started by FANATICON with special guests, panels, performances, a costume showcase, parties for both kids and grown-ups, and much more.

GeekOUT will retain almost all programming and activities from FANATICON in a new, multiple-venue format. The new arrangement will take fans out into the mountain air, to many of the downtown locales that make Asheville one of the most artistically vibrant centers for geek life in the Southeast!

Costumes are encouraged! The event will begin with an opening ceremony the afternoon of Friday, May 11, and will continue all day May 12. Saturday morning and afternoon will focus on children’s and family-friendly programming, and both evenings will feature a variety of activities and attractions for fans of all ages. For adult fans who want to party into the morning hours, Top DJ talent will kick off themed costume dance parties both nights!

GeekOUT is free of charge to attendees!*

Here is what we’re looking for over the next 4 weeks (primary registration closes March 23!):

  • Performers!
  • Panels and presenters!
  • Guests!
  • Sponsors!
  • Businesses within walking distance of Pack Square that would like to host events!
  • Volunteers of ANY kind!
  • Vending opportunities have yet to be determined, but if you are an interested vendor, let us know!

Contact us if you or your organization would like to be involved!

See you in May!”
