2014 Worldcon is Loncon 3

By Petrea Mitchell| September 2, 2012 | Comments Off

In the absence of any last-minute shenanigans, the London in 2014 bid has been seated as Loncon 3, to be held August 14-18. The guests of honor will be writers Iain (M.) Banks and Robin Hobb; artist Chris Foss; comics writer/artist Bryan Talbot; editor Malcolm Edwards; critic John Clute; and fan Jeanne Gomoll. Much more info is available at their new site.

This means a NASFiC, of course, and the only bid for 2014 (to be voted on next year) is still the one for Phoenix.

The summer of 2014 is shaping up to be an interesting one as several big-name cons line up on separate but nearly consecutive weekends. If the Phoenix bid succeeds and a couple of other major conventions stick to the weekends they’ve been on recently, it will look like this:

  • July 24-27: SD Comic-Con
  • July 31-August 3: NASFiC
  • August 15-18: Worldcon
  • August 22-24: Eurocon (Shamrokon in Dublin)
  • August 29-September 1: Dragon*Con

Start planning those sabbaticals now!
