It’s Mid-October and a lot has been going on here at FSC HQ! We’re hard at work putting together Florida Supercon 2013 and have a ton of updates since our last email. But July 4-7, 2013 is a long way away… and we love putting on events… so we’re thrilled to announce a brand new event, ANIMATE! MIAMI set for January 18-20, 2013 at the Miami Airport Convention Center, It’s a big 3 day festival dedicated to Anime, Animation and Cosplay.

FLORIDA SUPERCON: South Florida’s Comic Book, Anime, Animation, Video Game, Fantasy, Sci-Fi and Pop Culture Convention will take place JULY 4 – 7, 2013 at the Miami Airport Convention Center. It’s 4 days of fun featuring celebrity guests, comic book creators, voice actors, industry guests, cosplayers, artists, writers, panels, Q&A’s, films & shorts, costume & cosplay contests, vendors, parties, anime, workshops, video gaming and more! FSC will be returning for year eight to the MIAMI AIRPORT CONVENTION CENTER (MACC). Next year July 4th is on a Thursday, so instead of starting the show on Friday, next years event will take place Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday for another 4 day show!

Monica Rial has been working in the anime voice over industry for 13 years. Maggie Flecknoe Animate! Miami

Maggie Flecknoe is a Houston-based actress (voice, stage, film and television), writer, producer, and host of the nationally syndicated television segment “The Online Dish” for Tribune and The CW Affiliate KIAH-TV Ch. 39. Maggie is best known to Anime fans for her roles in High School of the Dead (Saya Takagi), Clanned (Yukine Miyazama), Samurai Girls (Hanzo Hattori) and Pani Poni Dash (Ichijo). When she’s not acting, Maggie is broadcasting. She was an entertainment reporter and traffic anchor for 790 “The Sports Animal” and a reporter and producer for News Radio 740 KTRH.

Brittney Karboski Animate! Miami

Brittney Karbowski is an Anime Voice Actress for many Funimation and ADV releases including: Soul Eater (Blackstar), Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Selim Bradley/Pride), Xenosaga (M.O.M.O.), Pani Poni Dash! (Himeko), Coyote Ragtime Show (Franca), Kanon (Ayu Tsukimiya), Yumeria (Mone), Godanner (Momoko), Gilgamesh (Fuko), Ouran High School Host Club (Hinako), Negima!? According to Anime News Network, John Swasey is the most prolific male voice actor in North America with more roles and titles under his belt than any other male voice actor. John started down the road of anime in 1997, when he landed his first role in Golden Boy from ADV Films. Since then, John has gone on to voice hundreds shows and characters with ADV Films, Funimation, Sentai Films, Gearbox, and Illumitoons just to name a few. Being more of the character actor type has given John the freedom to voice bazillions of characters such as Gendo in Evangelion, the Captain in Halo (VG), Lord Death in Soul Eater, Hoenheim in Fullmetal Alchemist, Sir Crocodile in One Piece, Salvador in Borderland II (VG), Kogoro in Sgt. Frog, Huang in Darker than Black, Vulcan in Orphen, Ken in Kaleido Star, Captain Ahab in Hakugei The Legend of Moby Dick, Rikudoh in RahXephon, Mister in Coyote Ragtime Show, as well as roles in the live action films 2009 Lost Memories, Conduct Zero, Yesterday, Jungle Juice, and the Gamera trilogy. In 2004, John jumped to the other side of the “mic” to direct. Dan Payne is a versatile actor, photographer and artist. He is best known for his roles in Stargate SG-1 (Kull Warrior, Ashrak, Jaffa), Stargate: Atlantis (Big Wraith, Lt. Reed, Wraith, Super Soldier), Watchmen (Dollar Bill), Watchmen: Under The Hood (Dollar Bill), Underworld: Awakening (Lycan Creature), Cabin in the Woods (Matthew), Battlestar Galactica (Sean Ellison), The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz (Weatherman), It’s a Very Muppet Christmas Movie (Handsome Executive) and Alice I Think (John MacLeod).



Dino may be most recognized as one of the stars of Community on NBC (“Star Burns”), but animation fans will know him as the creator, writer, director and executive producer of Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole and Morel Orel.
Dino began his career as a writer for The Ben Stiller Show before joining the writing staff of Late Night with Conan O’Brien. During the ’90s he wrote for Late Show with David Letterman, The Dana Carvey Show and Mr. Show with Bob and David. In 2000 Dino and Robert Smigel pitched Comedy Central a spin-off of Smigel’s TV Funhouse SNL cartoons which would be a half-hour sketch comedy show. TV Funhouse premiered on 2000. Following TV Funhouse he joined the writing staff on Mad TV.Dino worked on Tom Goes to the Mayor with Mr. Show alumnus Bob Odenkirk. He created the stop motion animated series Moral Orel for Adult Swim as well as Mary Shelley’s Frankenhole. He was the voice of Drinky Crow on The Drinky Crow Show, as well as a writer for Important Things with Demetri Martin and Lucky Louie. Since 2009, Stamatopoulos has been appearing as “Star-Burns” on the NBC comedy series Community. He is also a consultant and writer on the show. He co-wrote the stop motion animation Christmas special.



Eric Stuart is a multi-talented voice actor, director, singer and songwriter! He is best known for his roles in Pokemon (original Brock and James), Yu-Gi-Oh! (Seto Kaiba) and Slayers (Gourry Gabriev). As a singer/songwriter, Eric Stuart has toured the country with such rock legends as Peter Frampton, Ringo Starr, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He’s also opened for such acts as Jethro Tull, Julian Cope, Hall and Oates, and Chicago. All this while continuing a successful voice acting/directing career, starring in hit shows including Pokemon (original Brock & James), Yu-Gi-Oh! (Seto Kaiba, Elemental Hero Avian, Bastion Misawa), Slayers (Gourry), One Piece (4 Kids Dub – Narrator, Henzo), Viva Pinata, Ultimate Muscle (DikDik Van Dik, Mac Metaphor), Dinosaur King (Dr. Z), Kirby (Metaknight), Slayers (Gourry), F-Zero GP Legend (Black Shadow, Draq, Octoman), Chaotic, Sonic X, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Gennosuke, Yoshi), GoGoRiki, G.I. Joe Sigma 6 (Hi-Tech), in addition to voicing many national radio and TV commercials and audiobook narrations.

In addition to our new guest announcements, Florida Supercon has announced Carlos Blanchard as the NEW Director of Costuming and Cosplay for all Supercon events! This is a newly created position at Florida Supercon, replacing the previous position of Director of Cosplay and is meant to show FSC’s renewed focus in the costuming and cosplay community, with an emphasis on the art of costuming. Carlos has been coming up with dozens of amazing new ideas on how to grow the costume/cosplay element of the convention, and we’re excited to see where his vision take us!

Carlos Blanchard is a veteran costumer, graphic designer, project manager. He is the founder of Rage Custom Creations,, has been a serious costumer and active participant in the community for well over a decade. He recently received worldwide attention for his Medieval Batman costume, which has been featured by MTV Geek, The Sun-Sentinel, IO9, Yahoo and dozens of other news organizations. In addition, he was the costume designer of the recent Mary Jane/Gwen Stacy Venom photo shoots that went viral (and caused a stir on Facebook), has gotten worldwide attention for his company Rage Custom Creations and has been the designer of multiple costumes worn by other costumers that have gone viral in recent months! Carlos has been attending Florida Supercon since 2008 and been a part of our family since 2009 when he first came on board as a staff member. Keep an eye out for some exciting announcements about what Carlos and his team have planned for 2013 and beyond!
