Hotel Update
DoubleTreeWe’ve experienced unfortunate delays processing room requests with the DoubleTree, so nothing has gone out to anyone yet. The major delay has been the hotel, who needed to place a new reservationist. They now have one now, so we should start processing requests within the next week. We are glad the delay is finally over and hope to finish by the end of April!

In the next few weeks, those with DoubleTree requests will receive a confirmation email from the DoubleTree for your actual room reservation. Once you receive that confirmation, please contact the DoubleTree and guarantee your room.

  • If you don’t guarantee your room, your reservation may be cancelled without notice.
  • You can guarantee your room via credit card and nothing will be charged to your credit card until you check out.
  • If you use a debit card, the hotel will pre-authorize the amount of your stay when you check in, and those funds will not be available to you. This is standard hotel procedure.
  • If you guarantee the room via credit or debit card, and abandon your reservation without calling to cancel, the hotel will charge the first night’s stay. This is also their standard.

If you don’t hear from the DoubleTree by May 5, contact us and we will investigate for you. For any questions regarding your reservation, or if you need to cancel or make changes, please feel free to contact the CONvergence Hotel Team between now and 11:59 p.m. June 28, 2013. You can reach us at

Registration The current adult registration rate is still $60 until May 15. You can register for the convention a number of ways, so visit the website for more information.

Help Fight Hunger
Hallie Q Brown HungerconJonathan Palmer (Sub-Head for CONvergence’s Artist Alley) runs a historic nonprofit social service agency, Hallie Q. Brown Community Center in St. Paul.  One of their largest programs is the Food Shelf which provides food and other resources to other people in need.  Every year they participate in Minnesota FoodShare’s March Campaign, a statewide effort to collect food and build awareness.  The theme is “Be the Hero. Fight Hunger”, and this year Jonathan was chosen as the literal poster [fan]boy.

At Hallie Q. Brown, they take the theme to heart and have created Hallie’s Heroes and the League of Hunger Villains to dramatize the campaign and have fun. This year, they’ve decided to take it one step further and make their end of the campaign celebration into a convention, dubbed “HungerCon”.  They have invited vendors, artists and comic shops and will be having costume contests, trivia and other fun programming at then event.

CONvergence would like to ask you all to come join us decked out in your favorite cosplay.  This is the first time they are doing this format, and they would really like to have a full house of us who live and breathe superheroes in sci-fi/fantasy. Many of the youth attending have never been to a convention or seen the detailed costumes and props that we all know and love to dress up in.

The event is a family event and free and open to the public.  It is Saturday, April 13th from 12-4pm at Hallie Q. Brown Community Center.  There are links below if you’re interested in learning more or just enjoying some of the fun stuff on the websites, and welcome any thoughts, suggestions, volunteers or participants in any way. We look forward to seeing you in April or July.  Please feel free to contact Jonathan directly with any questions.
