Riverside Drive-In Theatre to Host
APRIL GHOULS DRIVE-IN MONSTER-RAMA!
VANDERGRIFT, PA — For seven years in a row, we’ve brought back the fun in going to the drive-in, with our annual, award-winning September DRIVE-IN SUPER MONSTER-RAMA event. Now, the Riverside Drive-In Theatre is bringing the same retro thrills to their opening season with APRIL GHOULS DRIVE-IN MONSTER-RAMA! Like the September spectacular, this is two nights of classic horror and monster 35mm prints presented at an authentic drive-in movie theater. There will be two big shows on two consecutive nights which will start at dusk and go on until really late into the night! We have some very special treats in store, so we encourage all drive-in movie fanatics to travel from near and far, as you’re not going to find anything else like it, anywhere!
What could be better than a weekend getaway topped off with two nights of classic monster movies on the big outdoor screen? We realize that everything is so expensive these days, but admission is still only $10 a person each night! Plus, children 12 and under are free with parent or adult guardian. How can you beat that? The Riverside’s concession stand is loaded with reasonably priced goodies, including hot foods, hot and cold drinks, candy, popcorn and much more!
What is being shown and when?

Trek Trax Indie Go Go campaign.
By Shawn Scott Smith| January 27, 2013 | Comments Off
| rekTrax Atlanta launches Indiegogo campaign Your support is urgently needed |
| TrekTrax Atlanta, the annual Star Trek convention launched in 2011 and hosted by the USS Republic, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo in its continuing efforts to survive. This online campaign follows two local “Trekkiepalooza!” fundraisers held in the Atlanta area in July and October 2012 for the same purpose. |
|
Chairman Eric L. Watts, Guardian of Forever Sue Lin Lange, Convention Attendee Robert Gregory, Staff Volunteer Zannetta Law Tucker (shown above) and Director of Klingon Programming Marq Collins explain what TrekTrax Atlanta is, why we’re asking for your help and what you will receive for your support. Click the image to go to our Indiegogo page, where you can watch the video.
|
| Why We Need Your Support The TrekTrax Atlanta executive committee developed a budget for its first convention based on a 300-person paid attendance. Actual paid attendance was about half that, well below expectations, resulting in a significant financial shortfall. The budget for the 2012 convention was slashed to be better aligned with the previous year’s attendance figures, but the convention is still awash in red ink, making it difficult for us to plan for our third convention this coming April. FLORIDA ANIME EXPERIENCE WELCOMES NEW GUESTS, NEW EVENTS, AND A FREE TRIP TO LOS ANGELES IN 2013
By Shawn Scott Smith| January 21, 2013 | Comments Off
Now in its third year, Orlando’s “anime convention about ANIME” continues to focus on Japanese pop culture in Florida.
(ORLANDO, January 21, 2013) Florida Anime Experience, the southeast’s “anime convention about ANIME,” will return for its third year on Memorial Day Weekend, May 24-26, 2013, to the International Palms Resort and Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. The three day event is a celebration of Japanese pop culture encompassing animation, manga (Japanese graphic novels,) music, video games, and more. Keeping with the event’s “Legends of Anime” theme from previous years, the Guest of Honor in 2013 is Maile Flanagan – the voice of one of anime’s most recognizable characters: Naruto.
(Previous Guests of Honor have been Steve Blum, the voice of “Spike Spiegel” from Cowboy Bebop in 2011 and Terri Hawkes – in her first ever United States convention appearance – the voice of “Sailor Moon” from the internationally know anime Sailor Moon in 2012.) Read more

Worldcon Hotel and Hugo dates
By Petrea Mitchell| January 21, 2013 | Comments Off
This year’s Worldcon, LoneStarCon 3 in San Antonio, will be opening up its hotel room block on Monday, January 21st. This is traditionally a day of frantic reservation-making, although the fact that both of this year’s hotels have the same room rates, and that there are numerous other hotels in the vicinity, should ease the crush somewhat.
Hugo Award nominations are now open, and close on March 10. This is probably to make room for an Easter weekend announcement of the nominees, although the announcement date has not been officially confirmed. Everyone who buys a Worldcon membership, including the $60 non-attending membership, before the nomination deadline is eligible to vote. Further Hugo details here.
