By Shawn Scott Smith| March 3, 2013 | Comments Off on Stellarcon 37 Saturday Review
I attended Stellarcon 34 around three years ago in High Point. As you can tell from my previous postings, I was less than thrilled.
I decided to give the convention another go this year, mostly because its been a slow winter for me and a friend of mine Jack was going to be at the convention who I havent seen in over a decade. I only went on Saturday so I can only comment on that aspect of the convention this time. Things seemed much more organized than the last time I attended, except for the fact that the programming 1 and 2 room signs werent placed right, and even though I heard countless people enter the wrong room all day, no one from staff ever moved the signs to make it less confusing.
I started the day with a tv retrospective panel that was fun, and followed it with a panel about Stan Lee’s life in comics, both pro and cons. I enjoyed this panel as it was probably the most informative of the day.
Took a lunch at the wonderfully stocked consuite. Stellarcon gets an A for their consuite. It had food all day and a good variety of the regular con amenities. I guess when your only feeding a small group of people that is doable, but either way the CONSUITE was a highlight with friendly staff and plentiful food, and that department head should be proud of their effort.
Ran through the dealer room after lunch, which had the usual assortment of dealers, artists, and game supplies. Strange to see the other conventions tables taking up a lot of the room in the dealers room instead of the hallways, but I wonder if the hotel requested no tables in the hallways? Which would be strange for a private event. Heard a few dealers grumble about lack of traffic, again pointing to what was pretty obvious. The convention was very lightly attended. Read more
