By Shawn Scott Smith| August 2, 2013 | Comments Off on Baltimore Comic-Con Welcomes Back Neal and Josh Adams
Silver Age artist and creator-rights advocate, Neil Adams’ work on such DC Comics characters as Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow throughout the ’60s and ’70s redefined an era of comics, and brought a photo-realistic feel to the pages of their respective books. His eye for detail and definition elevated the art form to levels that had previously been seen only in fantasy illustration.
In the late-’60s, while freelancing for DC Comics, Adams also began working at Marvel Comics on X-Men with Roy Thomas. He continued to work for DC and Marvel throughout the late-’60s and ’70s, working on the titles The Avengers, Detective Comics, and Green Lantern/Green Arrow.
In addition, Adams crusaded for years to secure pensions and recognition for Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, creators of Superman and, in 1978, he helped form the Comics Creators Guide. He was inducted into the Eisner Awards’ Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1998, and the Harvey Awards’ Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1999. Most recently, he finished working on the covers for Marvel Comics’ First X-Men.

VISIONCON 2014 – FEB 21•22•23 Springfield, MO
There are very few actors who can lay claim to a professional resume as long and varied as Ernie Hudson, but Hudson has always been a unique screen presence, capable of taking on any role. He was slimed when he co-starred as one of the “Ghostbusters” in two films; he played the simple-minded handyman Solomon in the box-office smash “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle”, and starred as Warden Glynn in the critically acclaimed HBO series “Oz.”
We are thrilled he has accepted out invitation to attend as a Guest of Honor in 2014! Stay tuned as we continue to announce Guests, Events, and Programs. Also be sure to ‘Like Us’ on facebook to connect with the community.

Had a great time at Monstercon the past two days. The multifandom convention had a rough start this week when their host hotel bailed on them. Leaving them homeless they acted fast and secured the Timmons Arena at Furman University. A great place for the vendors and artists who were set up.
Sadly it left the panels being divided throughout the room and the lack of audio equipment and microphones made it very difficult to hear the panelists at all. I was literally in the second row on one panel and had to get up and leave because I couldnt’ decipher what they were saying above the crowd noise throughout the rest of the convention.
If they can figure out how to get the panel rooms in seperate areas next year(or provide sound) then the convention has an awesome shot to grow and expand in its current location, but I had planned on attending multiple panels today but gave up after not hearing two of them. A low point for me on this show, but with the short timing of the move it was understandable.
Less understandable was the lack of a printed schedule. The only way you knew when anything was happening was ten minutes before a panel started an announcement was made about the location. A printed black and white schedule could have been made at a copy shop and given out to attendees for about 8 cents per attendee, or at least one large printed schedule located at a central place would have worked wonders. This was the one inexecusable mistake the convention runners made, and one I heard echoed from fans and vendors alike. They obviously had a schedule that they made announcements from. But nothing was posted anywhere in the arena to let people know what was coming.
Despite this the show was still very strongly attended, the cosplay was abundant and the dealers were varied and well stocked. There was one guy selling Comic Con exclusives from last week, but he was charging double what the exclusives cost him. I really dislike the price gouging with exclusives but I’m sure he did okay at the show.
Great artists all around artist alley and a nice mix of differentfandoms. If Monstercon can settle the panel and sound issues, and get a posted program of events onsite somewhere the show has nothing but good potential in front of it. I’ll come back and see their progress next year.
