Actor/Comedian Phil LaMarr to Host the 2012 Harvey Awards

BALTIMORE, MARYLAND - August 16, 2012 - The Baltimore Comic-Con is happy to announce that actor and comedian Phil LaMarr will host this year’s Harvey Awards banquet and ceremony, taking place on the evening of Saturday, September 8, 2012. The Baltimore Comic-Con, which will be taking place September 8-9 at the Baltimore Convention Center, has been the home of the Harvey Awards since 2006. 

John Stewart Green Lantern (LaMarr) Phil LaMarr is best known as a cast member of Fox’s MADtv, a sketch comedy show based on characters and situations from MAD magazine, which was found in 1952 by Editor Harvey Kurtzman (namesake of the Harvey Awards) and Publisher William Gaines. The show first aired in 1995 and ran for 14 seasons, of which LaMarr was a cast member for 5 seasons (1995-2000).

 

In addition to his comedic acting, LaMarr is also an accomplished voice actor for such renowned shows as Futurama, Kaijudo, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, Static Shock, Evil con Carne, Samurai Jack and Justice League Unlimited, as well as recurring roles on King of the Hill, Family Guy, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Young Justice and The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron.

NEW YORK and AUSTIN, August 15, 2012 – Seven stars of the popular series “Star Trek: The Next Generation” will gather for their first 25-year U.S. reunion at Wizard World Austin Comic Con, Oct. 26-28, 2012, at the Austin Convention Center.  All seven of the main stars are scheduled to attend, including the legendary Patrick Stewart, who portrayed the stern, determined Captain Jean-Luc Picard, commander of the USS Enterprise.

The “TNG” stars will be joined in Austin by Eliza Dushku (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer,”True Lies), WWE® Superstar CM Punk®, Dean Cain (“Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” “90210”), Anthony Michael Hall (Sixteen Candles, Weird Science), James Marsters (“Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Torchwood”) and the Boondock Saints trio of Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flanery and David Della Rocco, among others.

The other “TNG” actors on board include Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker), LeVar Burton (Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge), Michael Dorn(Lieutenant Worf), Marina Sirtis (Counselor Deanna Troi), Brent Spiner (Lt. Commander Data) and Gates McFadden (Dr. Beverly Crusher).  The series, which ran for seven seasons from 1987 through 1994, garnered 18 daytime Emmys and was a hugely successful follow-up to the original “Star Trek” series from two decades earlier.

The lineup of superstar comic creators in Austin is also impressive, with Eisner Award Hall of Famer Neal Adams (“Batman,” “Green Lantern”), Eisner winnersPaul Jenkins (“Spider-Man,” “Hulk”) and Bernie Wrightson (“Swamp Thing,” “House of Mystery”), Kaare Andrews (“Astonishing X-Men,” “Iron Man”),Humberto Ramos (“The Spectacular Spider-Man,” “Impulse”) and Mike McKone (“Avengers,” “Green Lantern”) at the top of the deep list. music; Yuzo Koshiro will make his long awaited appearance at MAGFest
11.

An industry legend and pioneer of the FM synthesizer, Koshiro has
long been one of the most well respected and admired video game
composers in the entire world with his incredibly energetic and dance
friendly style of music, contrasted by his grand orchestral
masterpieces, making him one of the most versatile and diverse
composers of all time.

After studying under the tutelage of Joe Hisaishi, Koshiro made his
mark as part of the JDK unit for Falcom’s groundbreaking action RPG
games, most notably Ys. From Falcom to SEGA, where he would create the
soundtracks that ultimately became his most popular; Shinobi and
Streets of Rage. In 1990, Koshiro composed the music for Enix’s
Actraiser, a soundtrack that redefined orchestral sound in a video
game, and became one of the most popular soundtracks on the Super
Nintendo. Since the creation of his family run company ANCIENT in that
same year, Yuzo Koshiro has continued to compose for video games for
close to 2 decades, with games including Shenmue, Castlevania: Potrait
of Ruin, and Etrian Odyssey.

Tampa Bay Comic Con Brings in the Walking Dead

August 14th, 2012 – The Tampa Bay Comic Con will take place on October 20th-21st, 2012!

 

The Tampa Bay Comic Con is proud to announce that Chandler Riggs, who portrays “Carl Grimes” in AMC’s hit TV show, “The Walking Dead” will be at the convention to meet and greet fans! Season 3 of “The Walking Dead” premieres the week before the Tampa Bay Comic Con–episode 2 of season 3 will premiere the same weekend as the October 20-21 convention.

 

With a large selection of vendors selling comic books, action figures, cards, games, manga and Star Wars items there will be something for everyone. It’s a dilemma for many congoers when Worldcon and Dragon*Con are on the same weekend. But this year, whichever you go to, you can sample some of the other: As Chicon puts it:

We’re delighted to announce a unique digital link-up between Chicon 7 and Dragon*con.

For the first time, Worldcon and Dragoncon will run joint programming through a two-way video link between the two conventions. Worldcon and Dragon*con attendees will also be able to sample the unique flavor of each other’s events.

GaymerCon boots up on Kickstarter

GaymerCon is an LGBT video gaming convention to be held in San Francisco, August 3-4, 2013. It’s being funded through this Kickstarter project.

The project has already raised the $25,000 needed to run the convention at all, and is aiming for a total of $60,000 by August 31st in order to bring in a celebrity guest, or rather, “Boss of Honor”.

We are pleased to announce our latest celebrity autograph guest, Lea Thompson. Although best known as Lorraine from the Back to the Future trilogy, Lea also appeared in Jaws 3-D, Red Dawn, Howard the Duck, SpaceCamp and the Beverly Hillbillies. In addition, Lea also has had an extensive TV career, which includes playing the part of Caroline Duffy on the NBC’s 1990′s series Caroline in the City. Currently, Lea can be seen on ABC Family’s Switched at Birth series.

Latest update: Murray has reportedly been located alive in Windsor, Ontario and is on his way home.

Eric Murray, a longtime volunteer at several conventions, has vanished and there is great concern for his well-being. He was last known to be en route to GoDaikoCon in Michigan at 7am last Thursday. Update: His last known whereabouts are now that he left work in Philadelphia at 5pm. His car is a silver-gray 2002 Dodge Intrepid.
